Sac State Offensive Coordinator Bobby Fresques is one of 10 children

Following the first regular season loss for Sacramento State football since Oct. 2021, offensive coordinator Bobby Fresques reflects on the turnaround for the program and the aspirations to get to the next level–in the mix for a national championship.

Fresques and Dave discuss the impact Hornets legend Greg Knapp left on him as a coach and a man. Knapp was tragically killed after being hit by a car while riding his bicycle and Sacramento State continues to keep his memory alive. Knapp was a star quarterback at Sacramento State before a long and respected career in the NFL, making two trips to the Super Bowl with Denver.

The theme family is important to the football team and Fresques can relate to his own experience as one of 10 children–growing up in a three-bedroom home in Southern California.

"One good thing with all those siblings is that you always had someone to play with. You didn't have to go down the street and look for friends because there were always people in the house to play with. But with me being the youngest out of this family and six brothers being in the fold--they were helped me and mentored me along the way. My brother Paul was huge in my development as far as making me workout, set goals, teaching me about the game. My brothers Pat, Ron and Don are huge supporters and there to talk to and express my feelings about the game.

Former Sabercats Coach Darren Arbet Reinvents Himself at Cabrillo College

I said, "Hey, Coach. I'm going to go grab a bite?. He goes "Lunch? I've got four kids over there. I don't even know who they are. Their coach sent 'em here. Three guys over there don't have 12 units. Those four over there don't have a place to stay. We still gotta do playbooks. There's some stale donuts in the foyer there. Grab some of them if you're hungry and grab some of these kids and get some work done." I said to myself, "After this year, I'm done."
